A
little bit of history...
The idea of
having one team compete against another team makes for a very exciting
competition as is well remembered when DJ teams were allowed for the first
time at the 1992 and the 1993 DMC World Finals. Of the different teams
competing against solo DJs DJ Q-Bert & the Rock Steady Crew /
Supreme Team from San Francisco really made everyone recognize the
musical potential of DJ teams.
The first ever
DMC
DJ Teams only battle took place in 1999
at the DMC World Finals in New York City. The Scratch Perverts team
from the UK were crowned the first World DJ Team Champions. Canada did
not hold a Teams Battle that year, but never the less two of Canada's finest
DJ crews were invited to represent Canada; Toronto's Turnstylez
Crew (D-Scratch, Lil' Jaz & Grouch) and The Turntable Monkz
(Dopey, J Tec & Tantrum). Canada was also represented with DJ A-Trak who
competed with the Allies.

In 2000,
DMC Canada held its first official DJ Teams competition with Montreal's
Deceptikonz (DJ Blast, Twitch, Supreme, Progress) taking the title. The
2000 World DJ Team Champion title was won by a memorable team of Canada’s
DJ A-Trak with DJ Craze from the U.S. The combined skills and
showmanship of these two World Champion DJs was an impossible act to beat.
