DMC was founded in 1983 in
London, England. The company DMC (Disco Mix Club) began as an exclusive
DJ-only remix / megamix record subscription service. Today, there are DMC
branches in over 30 countries around the world. DMC also sells DJ and club
culture clothing, DJ competition videos / DVDs, various music compilation
series as well as related DJ product and accessories.
DMC began holding our internationally renowned DJ competitions in 1985.
Since then, the prestigious DMC World Champion title has been the most
sought after by aspiring DJs worldwide.
DMC has been organizing DJ competitions in
Canada since 1989. During
the 80's, Richard Fosse
was managing the Canadian branch from Kitchener, ON.
In 1991, Chris Kendall took over and has been managing Canadian DMC affairs
with his partner Gisele Berry ever since.
Every
year DMC searches out the most skilled DJs to represent our country
at the annual World Finals. In 1997 15 year old DJ A-Trak, from
Montreal, became Canada’s
first DMC World Champion and the youngest World Champion ever when he won at
the World Final in Rimini, Italy. In 2003 DJ Dopey, from Toronto, became
Canada’s second World Champion.
DMC was founded with the belief that a DJ is a figure of influence and
importance within the music community.
The DMC DJ Championships play a major part in redefining the role and image of
the DJ, giving them the opportunity to create music using only turntables, a
mixer and vinyl records. The
DMC competitions provide DJs the chance to demonstrate
their skills and musical innovation on local, national and international
levels and inspire them to excel.
The experience of competing in the
DMC’s prepares DJs with the
discipline and motivation needed to be successful in their chosen careers.
Many of them become renowned music producers and recording artists.
