In 1999 we held nine
Eliminations across Canada. The 1st Place winners of each elimination
competed at the Technics /
DMC DJ Championship
Canadian Final
which took place July 4th @ Richards in
Vancouver, BC. The event was a sold out show. Flipout hosted
the evening and special showcases were featured from DJ D-Scratch &
Grouch from the Turnstylez Crew, Checkmate & Concise
and the 1997 DMC World Champ - DJ A-Trak.

The
Toronto Elimination was held Thursday
May 20th @ The Guvernment. A thousand people witnessed an amazing display
of turntable dexterity by ten of the best turntablist in the Toronto area.
Special guest DJ Babu from Los Angeles' Beat Junkies crew
made his first Toronto appearance by playing an extended set to open the
night. Toronto's Bag of Trix breakdance crew also performed. At the
end of the night The Turnstylez Crew captivated the audience with a
hot set to show the potential of creating music with six turntables, three
mixers and some records. The judges for the competition were:
Mastermind, DJ Grouch, DJ X, Duane Watson, D-Scratch & DJ Babu.

On Sunday May
30th the first Thunder Bay Elimination
was staged at The Apollo. A very vocal audience witnessed an intense
competition between six DJs. The evening started with a spirited set by
Winnipeg rap group McNroe, followed by a a very exciting MC
throwdown from various area rappers that saw the audience dissing and
cheering as challengers and boasts came fast and furious. Next up, a great
breakdance performance by Thunder Bay's Go_Bot. The evening's host
DJs were Manos One from the Canadian Chapter of New York Music
Fiends and DJ Rogue. The judges for the event were:

at the University of Calgary's MacEwan Ballroom. The panel of judges

16th we held our second annual Ottawa
Elimination at Club Atomic. Even though it was held mid week, everybody
came out to check out their favourite DJs battle for the '99 title. The
evening was hosted by MC Richniques. The panel of judges included:
